Intro to Wax Carving Workshop

Session Available: Saturday 5/14 9a-5p Learn how to bring your ideas to life with our wax carving intensive led by guest instructor; designer and model maker Jennifer Salta. During this one-day hands-on class, Jen will share tips and tricks of the trade that she has learned over the past 10 years of working in the jewelry industry. The goal of this weekend is to take each student through the creation process of a pendant with a stone bezel, wax elements, hand carving, and a bail. Jennifer will guide you through the process on how to layout your idea - transfer it to wax and start your adventure! A variety of tools and different waxes will be available to you for the duration of the class. You will learn cool techniques to use and modify many of these tools, as well as life hacks to make your own at home! We will review all the essentials that will give you the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring the amazing world of wax carving and lost wax casting on your own! You will be provided with a tool/vendor list for your reference as well as written step-by-step instructions on what you did in class. Wax carving opens so many possibilities for design and there is much to learn! This intro course is a great way to start! Notes: -All materials and tools are included in the cost of this workshop. Students will have the option to purchase a wax starter kit at the end of the day. -This is a 1 day, 8-hour workshop. The class will run from 9-5 Saturday. Please bring lunch or plan to pitch in $10 for pizza. -This is a skill-based workshop, unlike our project-based classes there will be no finished "piece" at the end of the day, only wax models. At the end of the day, students can choose to have their pieces cast, Emily will send them out and cover $25 of casting charges, the rest will be due upon receipt. - There will be opportunities in the summer for you to sign up for 'Finishing Casting', a 4-hour workshop with Emily Marquis where we will clean up your casting, set your stones, and finish your piece.
